Born in 1944 in Fulda. Studied business administration in Saarbrücken and Würzburg. After graduating he joined his father's company tegut. in 1970 and from 1973 onwards he was chief executive officer and one of the partners of the company. In September 2009 he relinquished the position of CEO to his son Thomas Gutberlet but he is still active in the company's management. Since 1973 he has been chief executive officer of the company and one of the partners. The operations of the tegut… Group include not only supermarkets (tegut….) but also the production of meat and meat products (Kurhessische Fleischwaren) and the production of bread and bakery products (herzberger Bäckerei). He is a founder of KWALIS (Research Institute for Analytical and Holistic Quality), a member of various supervisory boards as well as of the executive boards of FIBL (Research Institute for Biological Agriculture), AÖL (Association of Ecological Food Manufacturers), and BÖLW (Alliance of the Ecological Food Industry). Issues that particularly concern Wolfgang Gutberlet and feature strongly in his entrepreneurial activities are the promotion of healthy foods that meet people's needs, the combining of achievement and learning in the working community and questions of the right handling of capital.
